GMOD Textures
If you’ve played Garry’s Mod, chances are you have come across texture Issues (missing textures). You may be seeing Error Signs, and purple/pink and black squares. It can be frustrating trying to play a game of deathrun or prophunt and not being able to tell exactly which route you should take, or where the sneaky hiding bottle Is.
The upside Is the fix Is extremely easy, and you only need to download 2 files which are free. You can also fix your GMOD Textures by purchasing Counter Strike Source.
Keep reading below for the free GMOD Textures Download. Or watch the video below and follow along.
CSS Textures
To start things off, we are first going to download the Counter Strike Source Textures (CSS Textures). The reason you need these are because GMOD (Garry’s Mod) runs off of the Source Engine. Most of the textures from your favorite servers are using recycled Source Textures. When you don’t have them, Garry’s Mod doesn’t know what to serve you, so It gives you an error. The link below will take you to the download page.
The download Is a bit large, so I suggest watching some Youtube as you wait for the textures to download 🙂

CSS Maps
The second file you will be downloading are the Counter Strike Source Maps (CSS Maps). You may be experiencing error messages when trying to connect to a server stating you don’t have the necessary map files. Again, this brings us back to the Source Engine. You wont be able to load Into a server which you don’t have the map for!

Fixing Textures
Now that you’ve downloaded the CSS Textures and CSS Maps for Garry’s Mod, It’s time to “Install” them Into Garry’s Mod!
You should have two zip files, just like this:
Right Click both of them, and click “Extract Here”:
Next, you are going to want to head to:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\GarrysMod\garrysmod\addons
This can also be achieved by going to your Steam Game Library, Right Clicking “Garry’s Mod“, and going to “Properties”. When the popup box comes up, click “Local Files”, then the “Browse Local Files” button. After that, enter the “addons” folder.
All you have to do now Is drag and drop your extracted “CSS Textures” folder Into your “Addons” folder!
To Install the CSS Maps, simply go to the following directory and drag and drop your extracted “CSS Maps” folder.
C:Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\GarrysMod\garrysmod\maps

Thanks a ton mate!
No problem buddy! Enjoy 🙂
There’s no virus signatures or back-doors that’s not going to alter my computer? Has these files have been verified by the publisher?
It’s simply a zip file with the game textures. There are no .exe (executable files) that run, so no risk of a virus.
Instead of ‘CSS textures’ the map is called ‘CSS game content’ but this does not make a difference right?
update:
I placed the dowloaded maps in the correct folders but I couldn’t see them in the game.
I took all files out of the ‘CSS maps’ folder and placed them as files in the ‘maps’ folder together with the complete ‘CSS maps’ folder and now I can see the maps in game, however when I load them, there are still no textures.
I copied a part of the files in the ‘CSS game content’ as single files into the ‘addons’ folder and I think that there are now a few textures in the maps (unless those were already in gmod, I’m not sure. because when I copied the weapons folder there were no new weapons in the game)
So do I have to copy every single file into the ‘addons’ folder or is there another way I can fix this problem?
I will be gratefull for your help and I will surely give this site a shoutout to friends if I could get this to work.
After extracting the CSS Game Content zip file, all you should have to do Is drag and drop the regular CSS Game Content folder Into the addons folder.
You might also want to give this a try:
In Garry’s Mod, go to “Options”>”Other” Tab>”When a game server tries to download custom content to your computer” select from the drop down menu, “Allow all custom files from server”.
yeah I found out about the map in the map so to speak :p
thanks a lot for the file and tutorial!
It does not make a difference. I named the file “CSS Textures” In the gifs above to simplify things a bit. Will probably change It now to stop any confusion.
Hi,
it seems like my last comment dissapeared..
I can not get it to work when I put the maps in the right folder..
any tips how I can fix this?
thanks
Didn’t see this comment!
Looks like we got It all sorted out above 🙂
Great thanks!
No problem buddy, glad it worked!
thanks alot…
Glad It helped ya out 🙂
I am Going to see if it works on my Laptop
It should work on desktop or laptop 🙂
I have downloaded both zip files but when I right click them the “Extract here” option does no come up.
The program I’m using for my zip files Is Winrar.
You can get It here, https://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
I moved my extracted folders to the designated areas but my game texture is still the same, any advice?
Ignore this
does the name matter that it is call CSS_Game_Content
Nope! The name of the folder doesn’t matter 🙂
so is the folders like C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\GarrysMod\garrysmod\addons\CSS Game Content\CSS_Game_Content ?
No, the path should look something like this:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\GarrysMod\garrysmod\addons\CSS Game Content
You simply extract the CSS Textures zip file Into the Garry’s Mod Addons folder.
Am downloading the textures rn. Looks great, tho. Thanks for uploading, even if it won’t work.
It works!
Considering you didn’t come back, I’m guessing It fixed your CSS Textures Issue 🙂
can you do tf2?
Sure, I can upload the TF2 Textures!
Can I get banned for this?
No, you can’t get banned for this. It’s just game textures, not a cheat :p
It Is 100% safe.
Would it also be possible to add the textures of games like HL2, HL2 Ep. 1 & 2 or L4D2? And maybe Black Mesa?
Sure, I can add all those textures. Will make a new page with all the textures.
thanks
No problem buddy, glad It helped you out.
